Lyrics from the EP Someday My Thoughts Will Be Like a Range of Mountains

Ex Girl

ex girlfriends are a particular breed of ghost
she walks unbidden through your memories
and leaves her perfume in the bottles of other women

you move through her favourite positions
with your new lovers
like a dance that your bones cannot forget

the ability to overwrite somehow has broken
you try not to forget to feel (try not to forget to feel)
the new body, softly

you tried to forget her face but it is written next to
that pure first love she gave to you
and her laugh out loud
and her grunt and yell and

i am an echo
i know

ex girlfriends are an empty house
they leave a light on in the upstairs window and run their fingers through the curtains
and in your mind you're still walking through those rooms

i hear you telling me she's nothing to you now
just try not to forget to feel (forget to feel, try not to forget to feel)
my body
and my pure love that i gave to you
and my laugh out loud
and my grunt and yell and

i am an echo
i know

i know

A Certain Point

Can you feel it when my hands are shaking
I am so in love with you
At a certain point
driving in your car
Everything is just green and white and blue

The world is pure
And nature opens her eye
The roar of air as it rushes past my open window
do you remember my open mouth how it sighed
I'd go anywhere with you
I’d go anywhere with you
I'd go anywhere with you
I'd go anywhere with you

The sun is up
Blooming like a fever
It’s something you just have to
sweat out
It burns away the fog
and I am somewhat
blown apart

I'm in the glow
though it’s dark on the sand
I can see the clouds in all their many colours
behind my eyelids
It’s open in your hands

(bridge)
And pearls are harvested slowly
From the bottom of sea
And the girls are all shucking oysters
For their hunger, for free

Can you feel it
When my hands are shaking
I'm so in love with you
At a certain point
Driving in your car
Everything is just green and white and blue

Someday My Thoughts Will Be Like A Range Of Mountains

Someday my thoughts will be like a range of mountains
That old hunger will leave me
The wind will have long ago whipped me clean

And with time
I will be a hill for violets
I will kneel to that quietness in me

But for today, I will sit with my static
And try again to make it into a laser beam
For today I’ll follow where you lead

And someday my thoughts will be like a range of mountains

To Catch A Feeling

I drove to catch a feeling
It had been so long since life had glowed the way that I remembered
I had all of these targets
And I missed them

And when my friends ask me
What’s in my life
I think about the days
And tell them
“Nothing”

But there are secondary highways
They built to mimic the waterways of older days
They cut the land in ribbons
They called that lake a border

And the moose
which seem to have grown in the dark parts of the forest
A statue, a sentinel
She drinks her cool glass in the morning
and breathes through warm soft nostrils in clouds

And peace came at the same time that the hunter rode his quad
in search of blood
And stillness was in the same wood
that spread itself with every ray of sun

In each of us, a heartbeat
In each of us, a heartbeat
In each of us, a heartbeat
